Our Programs

Since 1989, Youth at Risk has transformed the lives of more than 2,600 at-risk youth through mentoring. Youth at Risk is a volunteer-based, nonprofit organization committed to unlocking the futures of at-risk children.

Our programs are designed to build self-esteem and leadership skills, increase school attendance and performance, end gang activity and violence and decrease substance abuse.

 
Homeless Children Mentoring Positive Adult Leaders in Society (PALS)

This program provides mentoring for children ages 5 – 15 who are living in transitional (domestic violence or homeless) shelters. Weekly interaction with mentors offers children individual guidance, academic encouragement and positive adult role modeling.

New Pathways for Teens

Since 1989, Youth at Risk has helped teens aged 14 – 17 change their path during this 9-month curriculum-based program, which begins with an intensive 4-day retreat.

Life Roads Program
This open-ended program is designed for graduates of the New Pathways program and provides an opportunity for ongoing mentoring, goal-setting and leadership in a supported environment.

New Pathways for Teens at Coronado High School
Youth at Risk has brought its teen program directly to Coronado High School. Students participate for four full years working on personal goal setting, youth leadership development and scholastic achievement – all with the support of a mentor.

Garfield Neighborhood After-School
This program, offered in partnership with Southwest School Partners, provides licensed, daily, after-school child care at our Center. Programming includes homework help, structured activities, a light meal and use of our 12-station networked computer lab.

Camelback High School New Pathways

An innovative and exciting new program that will progvide mentor support to second year students as they change their path in life. Program goals include establishing a trusting relationship with a mentor, staying in school, improving academic performance, replacing delinquent behaviors, and graduating high school. This program takes place wednesday evenings from 6 to 9pm at the school, located at 4612 North 28th Street in Phoenix (south of Highland). We are currently scheduling adults 21 years and older for interviews. Mentor training begins January 2011.
