Nancy came to Youth at Risk as
a teen mom with a substance abuse problem. In danger
of flunking out of Summit High School, a last-resort
charter school, Youth at Risk’s New Pathways Mentoring Program coupled
with a drug rehab program were, quite possibly, her last chance.
With the
support of her mentor, Nancy was able to stay clean and sober. She realized
that she
truly loved her child and both wanted and needed to be a good mom. Recognizing
an interest in nursing, Nancy worked hard to graduate high school and completed
a post-secondary certified nursing program.
Nancy is now employed as a
nursing assistant, owns her own car, and provides nurturing
care for her child.
