Many Faces of Youth at Risk

Miguel is a youth in our New Pathways program at Coronado High School. Miguel started as a sophomore with Youth at Risk, and he was very reserved with low self-esteem. Miguel signed up for the program to not only work on his family relationships, but to also work on him. Miguel was matched with John, a volunteer with Youth at Risk for over 10 years. John has supported Miguel with working on his self-esteem and bringing him out of his shell around others.

Now, Miguel is achieving greatness. He excels academically and is currently taking college courses through program at Scottsdale Community College while he finishes high school. He has also recently been inducted to the National Honor Society. In regards to his family, Miguel has created “family night” every week where all his family members get together to have an evening of fun with each other. Miguel and John both took on a project of making a mail box for one of the other mentors. As you can see in the photo, the project took on a life of its own!

Miguel continues to grow into an exceptional young man, and John is committed to supporting him through the rest of his high school career and into college!
